Challenging but rewarding

Pros:

  • Room for error
Cons:
  • Cost of materials
I spent far more time making this box that I had originally anticipated. It was my first time doing detailed veneer work. Cutting all of the veneer points perfectly is incredibly difficult to do. I would recommend cutting twice as many as it calls for and picking which ones are the best.

All in all, I spent around $150 on this project. I spent $45 on the game pieces plus around $100 in wood, hinges, and magnets.

It definitely challenged me and frustrated me several times but the plans do allow for a little bit of error. My box ended up slightly smaller than the plans called for due to correctly mistakes. If I can give any advice, wait to order your backgammon pieces until you're almost completely done. That way you don't end up buying pieces that are too big for your points if you make any mistakes. The plans called for 1 1/4" checkers but I ended up having to buy 1 1/8".
